Description
The Bluesound Powernode 2i is a multiroom streaming amplifier that combines amplifier, digital-to-analogue converter and network player functions in a single unit. It can drive a pair of speakers directly without separate components, in a compact format.
Its HybridDigital amplification stage delivers 2 × 60 W into 8 Ω, a power output suited to living-room listening with speakers of typical sensitivity. The built-in 32-bit/384 kHz converter supports MQA and high-resolution formats, allowing playback of the most detailed streams offered by streaming services. The BluOS platform provides connection to Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz and internet radio, with multiroom management to synchronise several rooms.
The connectivity combines digital and analogue inputs and outputs, a dedicated subwoofer output as well as a headphone output in mini-jack format. A version fitted with an HDMI input compatible with ARC/eARC is also available, making it easier to connect to a television. The whole system is controlled from the BluOS Controller app.
This type of device is aimed at those who want a complete, centralised hi-fi system without multiplying separate components: amplifier, network source and DAC in a single unit, capable of covering both everyday streaming listening and connection to a television via HDMI.

What to check before buying used
Check that the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module works properly and that the unit is recognised by the BluOS Controller app, as some older units may require a firmware update that can occasionally be temperamental. Test both amplification channels at high volume to rule out any hum or dropout related to the HybridDigital stage, and check the subwoofer output as well as the headphone jack. Also inspect the power connector and the condition of the analogue inputs, which can sometimes show oxidation on units that have seen a lot of use.
