Description
The Bluesound Pulse Flex is a compact wireless speaker designed to fit into any room in the house. It can operate on its own, be paired with a second unit for stereo listening, or serve as a wireless surround speaker coupled with a Bluesound soundbar. Its audio management relies on the BluOS Control platform, which centralises music streaming from multiple sources.
The speaker features a 20 mm tweeter and a 100 mm midrange/woofer driver, powered by a total amplification of 50 W split into 10 W for the tweeter and 40 W for the midrange/woofer. On the wireless connectivity side, it integrates Bluetooth 5.3 with support for the aptX HD codec, as well as dual-band Wi-Fi 5. It is compatible with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready, allowing it to be controlled from numerous streaming apps without complex setup. An ARM Cortex A53 QuadCore processor clocked at 1.8 GHz handles audio processing, with a sampling rate of up to 24-bit / 192 kHz and support for DSD256.
The wired connectivity includes a USB-C audio input, a USB-A input in Fat32 format, a combined optical TOSLINK / 3.5 mm mini-jack input, as well as an Ethernet port for a stable wired network connection. The unit supports a wide range of audio formats, including FLAC, WAV, ALAC, AIFF and MQA, making it a suitable solution for listening to high-resolution files.
This speaker is aimed at users wishing to provide sound for a living room, kitchen, bedroom or office without adding extra cables, while retaining the option to integrate the unit into a larger Bluesound multiroom setup. Its compatibility with home automation control systems such as Crestron, Control4, RTI, Nice URC and Lutron also makes it relevant for a connected installation controlled from an existing home automation system.

What to check before buying used
On this connected speaker, the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module and the amplification circuit are the sensitive points: unstable pairing, network dropouts or one of the two drivers being silent often indicate an electronic fault. Check that the BluOS firmware update runs without getting stuck and that all inputs (USB-C, USB-A, optical/jack, Ethernet) are correctly recognised. Also inspect the grille and casing, which mark easily from knocks, as well as the condition of the mains cable and its connector.
