Description
The SoundLink Color II is a portable Bluetooth speaker from Bose, designed for on-the-go listening both indoors and outdoors. Its soft-touch silicone coating wraps entirely around the housing, giving it a good grip as well as resistance to water splashes, an advantage for use by a swimming pool, a lake or in a garden.
On the technical side, the speaker features two opposing passive radiators, an architecture designed to limit housing vibrations while delivering full sound despite a compact format. It weighs 540 g, which makes it easy to carry in a bag, and is controlled via a single button allowing you to answer a call, skip a track or switch between two paired devices. A built-in microphone allows hands-free use. The Bluetooth connection offers a range of around 9 m and the speaker remembers up to eight previously connected devices, with voice prompts to guide pairing.
In terms of battery life, the rechargeable lithium-ion battery offers up to 8 hours of listening, a suitable format for a day out without needing to recharge in between.

What to check before buying used
The silicone coating may dull or show marks along the folds over time: it is best to examine it under raking light to spot any cracks or sticky areas. Also test the two passive radiators, which can come loose in the event of a drop, as well as the single multifunction button, which is frequently used and sometimes less responsive on older units. Finally, check that the lithium-ion battery still holds a charge close to the stated 8 hours, as an ageing battery recharges faster but also discharges sooner.
