B&W Formation Wedge
Wireless connected speaker by B&W with multi-way configuration and 240 W amplification, compatible with Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth and Formation multiroom.
Description
The Formation Wedge is a wireless connected speaker by Bowers & Wilkins, designed to play music throughout a room without the need for a separate hi-fi system. It fits into the brand's Formation ecosystem, designed for wireless multiroom playback.
Its acoustic configuration relies on five drivers arranged in three ways: two 25 mm double dome tweeters for the treble, two 90 mm FST midrange units, and a 150 mm woofer. This angled arrangement is intended to deliver a wide stereo image from a single unit. The total amplification of 240 W allows all the drivers to be powered with a power reserve suited to larger rooms.
In terms of connectivity, the Formation Wedge features Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth aptX Adaptive, as well as Spotify Connect and Roon compatibility. It supports audio playback up to a resolution of 24-bit / 96 kHz, allowing lossless high-definition files to be played. The multiroom mode allows it to be paired with other speakers from the Formation range for synchronised playback across several rooms.
This model is aimed at a user looking for a single, compact, connected speaker capable of covering an entire room without installing an amplifier or separate speakers, while maintaining a demand for sound quality and compatibility with common streaming services.

What to check before buying used
The fabric grille and the areas near the vents should be free from any signs of damp or deformation, which would indicate prolonged exposure to moisture. The power connectors and the Wi-Fi module are worth testing for standby and network reconnection, as these Formation speakers depend on a dedicated app that can sometimes be temperamental after a long period of inactivity. A check for the absence of unwanted noise in the woofer, which is driven continuously even at low volume, is also recommended.
