Description
The Bryston 4B³ is a stereo power amplifier designed in dual mono architecture. It belongs to a line begun in 1978, regularly refined over successive generations, of which it represents the sixth evolution.
Its rated power reaches 300 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and exceeds 500 watts into 4 ohms. This increase in power as impedance drops reflects a power supply and output stage capable of delivering current without limitation, allowing the amplifier to maintain control when faced with current-demanding speakers.
The dual mono design separates the amplification circuits of the two channels, an architecture that limits interaction between left and right channels and contributes to the stability of the stereo image.
A PRO version exists, intended for integration into a professional installation or technical rack. It is distinguished by a black 19-inch rack-mounting panel and by per-channel level adjustment potentiometers on the rear panel, adjustable from -14 to 0 dB.
This type of amplifier suits high-end domestic use as well as installations requiring a substantial power reserve, particularly with low-impedance or low-sensitivity speakers.

What to check before buying used
Check for the absence of background noise, crackling at the potentiometer, or channel imbalance, which would indicate ageing capacitors on one of the mono stages. Checking the heatsink temperature after half an hour of listening helps identify a faulty fan or thermal regulation. On the PRO version, make sure both rear-panel adjustment potentiometers turn smoothly across their full range from -14 to 0 dB.
