Description
The Bryston BP-19 is an analogue stereo preamplifier intended to sit at the heart of a high-end hi-fi system. It handles source selection and level control ahead of the power stage, with an architecture designed to preserve signal integrity from input to output.

What to check before buying used
On a unit fitted with the optional phono card, it is worth checking that the MM or MM/MC stage functions correctly and that there is no hum or abnormal background noise, which could indicate a grounding issue or an ageing component. Also test each XLR and RCA input as well as the fixed and variable outputs, to ensure none shows channel imbalance or crackling at the switching relays. Finally, check that the infrared remote control and RS232 or IP remote control function correctly if the unit is intended for integration into a home automation system.
