Description
The Antigua MT IW belongs to Cabasse's range of in-wall speakers, designed to disappear into a partition rather than occupy floor or shelf space. It answers a specific need: diffusing sound into a room without installing a visible cabinet, while retaining the French manufacturer's acoustic approach.
Its design relies on two separate transducers. The bass-midrange uses a 17T20 woofer developed specifically for this speaker, while the treble is handled by a DOM 36 tweeter borrowed from the MT30 range. This classic split between two drivers allows each to operate in its area of expertise, with the woofer taking care of the body of the musical signal and the tweeter the top of the spectrum.
The front panel has received particular attention. The grille is ultra flat and held in place by magnetic fixings: it sits flush with the surface of the wall or ceiling instead of forming a raised profile, and can be removed without tools or visible screws, which simplifies access to the driver as well as cleaning. It is this detail that governs the visual discretion of the installation once the work is complete.
This type of speaker is aimed at integrated installations: multi-room sound systems, home cinema setups where the surround channels are to be hidden, living rooms or kitchens where any floor clutter is unwanted. It requires the ability to work within a partition, with a clean opening and cable routing planned in advance.
A Back BOX enclosure is available as an option, at a rate of one unit per speaker. It provides a defined rear volume instead of leaving the driver working in the void of the partition, and at the same time limits sound transmission to the neighbouring room, a useful point when the speaker is installed in a party wall or between two floors.

What to check before buying used
On this type of in-wall speaker, inspection first focuses on the chassis and mounting brackets of the 17T20 woofer, which can become deformed or loose after removal from a partition. The magnetic grille is worth checking: the magnets sometimes lose their grip over time, and a poorly seated grille affects both sound quality and the discretion of the installation. Also check the condition of the DOM 36 tweeter, which is sensitive to overloads, as well as the integrity of the in-wall enclosure if it is included with this unit.
