The Cinéole 2.1 from Cabasse is a compact speaker pack built around two satellites and a subwoofer. It is aimed at those who want to improve their television sound without installing a full multichannel system or running cables across the room. It builds on the base of the Breton manufacturer's Eole 2.1 pack, in a version reworked for living-room use.
The main change lies in the subwoofer, derived from the Santorin 21: its amplification has been revised to also power the satellites. The subwoofer thus becomes the active heart of the system, avoiding the need for a separate amplifier. Cabasse has fitted it with two inputs, one optical and one analogue, allowing the television and a second device, such as a Blu-ray player, to be connected simultaneously.
In listening terms, the Cinéole sticks to its approach: this is a stereo pack, with no simulated rear effects or processing intended to artificially widen the soundstage. The aim is accuracy rather than spectacular showmanship. When properly set up, it delivers the qualities recognised in the Eole pack from which it originates, making it as convincing on music as on film soundtracks.
This system suits small to medium-sized living rooms, installations where visual discretion is a priority, and users who prefer a genuine pair of speakers to a soundbar. What to check before buying used
When buying used, several points deserve attention. As the subwoofer is amplified and supplies power to the satellites, check that its amplification module works correctly on both satellite channels and on the bass channel, without excessive hiss or dropouts. Test the optical and analogue inputs separately: the former is the one that will be used daily with the television. Check the presence and condition of the keyed plugs on the satellite connectors, as well as the condition of the original cables, which are often specific to this type of pack. Finally, check the woofer's diaphragm and confirm the remote control is included, as its universal function is part of the appeal of this set.
