Description
The Cabasse iO3 is a compact satellite speaker fitted with a single 13 cm 2-way coaxial driver, combining a Duocell midrange-woofer with a 2.7 cm Kaladex dome tweeter placed at its centre. This coaxial arrangement causes the emission points of both drive units to coincide, a principle taken directly from the brand's Baltic speakers.
The crossover is set at 2,700 Hz, the frequency at which the tweeter takes over from the midrange-woofer. The stated bandwidth spans from 150 to 22,000 Hz, and an efficiency of 93 dB for 1 W at 1 m allows the speaker to deliver a high sound level with little input power. The nominal impedance of 8 ohms, with a minimum of 3.8 ohms, along with a nominal power of 80 W and a peak power of 580 W, define the electrical load that the associated amplifier must be able to handle.

What to check before buying used
On this coaxial model, first check the condition of the Kaladex dome tweeter located at the centre of the driver: an impact or deformation at this point affects both the treble and the coherence of the sound image. Also check the condition of the Duocell midrange-woofer suspensions, which can stiffen or crack over time, as well as the cabinet and the veneer on the sides, which are sensitive to knocks and humidity. A test at moderate volume allows any rubbing noise from the diaphragm or an imbalance between the two speakers in the pair to be detected.
