Description
The Cabasse iO3 is a compact satellite speaker fitted with a 2-way coaxial driver. It uses the coaxial coincidence principle developed on the brand's Baltic speakers, a technology in which the tweeter is positioned at the centre of the midrange-woofer so that the emission points of the frequencies coincide.
The 13 cm coaxial driver, called Duocell, combines a 2.7 cm dome tweeter in Kaladex. This coaxial design aims to preserve the spatial coherence of the sound, a point that speakers with separate drive units at several emission points sometimes struggle to reproduce as faithfully.
On the technical side, the iO3 offers a sensitivity of 93 dB for 1 W at 1 m, a frequency response of 150 to 22,000 Hz and a crossover point set at 2,700 Hz. What to check before buying used
On the Duocell coaxial driver, check that the Kaladex tweeter dome is free from deformation or dents, as this central component is sensitive to impacts and handling through the grille. Listen carefully to the coherence of the sound in the upper part of the spectrum: a misalignment between tweeter and midrange-woofer results in a lack of precision or localised distortion. Also examine the driver suspension and the condition of the cabinet, particularly the corners and veneer, which are often marked on this compact format.
