Description
The Optimum Taurus from Positive Cable is an RCA cable specially designed to connect a subwoofer to an amplifier or a source. It incorporates a mono-to-stereo adapter, allowing it to be used with both a single-input subwoofer and a stereo-input model.
The conductor is made from high-purity oxygen-free copper (HPOFC), a material chosen for its signal transmission quality. The cable incorporates a complex internal structure, referred to by the manufacturer as FluxCapacitor™, designed to preserve the signal's time coherence across a wide bandwidth. The dielectric, called PDCC™, aims to limit distortion at high frequencies. The conductor is also described as low-frequency, a choice consistent with its intended use on a subwoofer.
Protection against electromagnetic interference relies on double shielding, comprising a copper braid and an aluminium foil, with the connector itself connected to earth. The outer sheath, named IsoFlex™, is presented as protection against abrasion and mechanical damage.
The RCA connectors are stated to have an impedance of 50 Ohms and feature a 24-carat gold-plated copper plating of 6 microns. The solder joints connecting the cable to the connectors are made with molten tin and hand-finished.
This cable is aimed at users wishing to take care over the connection between their source or amplifier and their subwoofer, in a hi-fi or home cinema system where the quality of the low-frequency connection is a particular point of attention.
What to check before buying used
With this type of RCA cable, wear mainly affects the connectors: check that the pins are neither oxidised nor loose and that earth continuity is intact, to avoid hum and bass loss. The built-in mono-to-stereo adapter, often the most heavily used part, deserves a check of its mechanical soundness. Also inspect the IsoFlex™ sheath along its entire length for kinks, cracks or crush marks that could compromise the shielding.
