Description
The Optimum Delphinus from Positive Cable is a digital coaxial cable fitted with RCA connectors, designed to connect a digital player, transport or source to a converter or amplifier with a coaxial input. It forms part of the digital link in a hi-fi system, upstream of the analogue conversion.
The conductor is made of high-purity oxygen-free copper (HPOFC), a material valued for the quality of electrical signal transfer. The cable incorporates a specific dielectric (PDCC™) designed to limit distortion at high frequencies, along with a particular internal structure (FluxCapacitor™) aimed at consistent timing performance across a wide bandwidth. The shielding combines a copper braid with an aluminium foil, with the connector earthed to enhance rejection of electromagnetic interference.
The RCA connectors are 24-carat gold-plated to a thickness of 6 microns, a finish intended to preserve contact quality over time. The solder joints between the cable and the connectors are made with molten tin solder, hand-finished. The outer sheath (IsoFlex™) is designed to provide mechanical protection against abrasion.
This cable is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts wishing to optimise the digital link in their system, between a source (CD player, digital transport, network box) and a converter or amplifier fitted with a digital coaxial input.

What to check before buying used
This type of digital cable should mainly be checked at the ends: the gold-plated RCA connectors should show no signs of oxidation or play on insertion, which would indicate a contact that has loosened over time. The IsoFlex™ sheath is worth examining along its length, particularly near the solder joints, to rule out cracks or sharp bends that would suggest it had been stored tightly coiled. A continuity test and checking for the absence of hum on start-up remain the best indicators that no micro-breaks have developed at the tin solder joints.
