What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the RCA connectors at each end: an oxidised contact or a loose collar is enough to cause crackling or loss of a channel. Also inspect the sheath and shielding along the full length, particularly near the plugs, an area where repeated bending weakens the internal strands over time. A cable that has been sharply bent or stored coiled too tightly may have partially broken shielding, invisible to the eye but audible as background noise.
