Description
The Current Spyder L from Essential Audio Tools is an unusual power cable: it combines three separate IEC cords stemming from a single mains plug. This configuration allows several components in a hi-fi or home cinema system to be powered from a single connection point, while retaining three separate outputs.
The cable is available in two lengths, 75 cm or 150 cm, and in two cord distribution configurations. The type A version offers lengths of 20, 30 and 40 cm, while the type B version offers three cords of 40 cm each. This choice allows the output layout to be adapted according to the position of the components to be powered behind the cabinet or rack. The Current Spyder L also incorporates mains surge protection, designed to limit the risks associated with variations or spikes in mains voltage.

What to check before buying used
Check the flexibility of the three IEC cords and that there are no cracks near the ends, the flex points most stressed by repeated connections behind a rack. The shared mains connector deserves a visual check of its pins and crimping, as does the fixing of the spider distribution unit, which should show no play. Also test that the surge protection is working correctly, as its effectiveness can deteriorate over time with no visible external sign.
