The SPX-20 is an audio mains cable designed by Siltech for powering hi-fi equipment. Its structure follows the principles of the Ruby Hill model, in a simplified version, whilst retaining full shielding intended to limit electrical interference transmitted to the system.
The cable has a diameter of 20 millimetres and consists of three strands of pure silver-plated copper, insulated by a Teflon sheath. What to check before buying used
The ferrite at the end must remain securely clipped onto the strand: a unit that has suffered transport knocks may show it cracked or detached, which cancels its HF filtering role. Also check that the Schuko and IEC plugs show no play or signs of overheating around the pins, a sign of repeated poor contact. Finally, feel along the Teflon sheath over the full length of the three strands to rule out any pinching or crushing that would weaken the full shielding.
