Description

The Positive Cable AT60 is a speaker cable, designed to connect the amplifier to the speakers in a hi-fi installation. It is a cable with a substantial cross-section, designed to minimise line losses and transmit the audio signal with as little alteration as possible.

The conductor is made of High Purity OFC copper, a material known for its low impurity content, which promotes more consistent electrical conduction. The 6 mm² cross-section is a notable feature for a speaker cable: the more generous the cross-section, the more it limits resistance and signal attenuation along the length of the cable, a particularly sensitive point over long distances or with speakers that demand high current.

This type of cable is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts who already have a system capable of revealing the nuances of the reproduction chain: well-built amplifiers and speakers, where the quality of the cabling can have a perceptible effect on the sound. It will be less suited to an entry-level installation, where other links in the chain will limit reproduction to a greater extent.

What to check before buying used

The shielding and sheath deserve close inspection along the entire length, particularly at flex points near the connectors, as a 6 mm² cross-section makes the cable stiffer and therefore more prone to internal microcracks from repeated bending. The connectors (banana, spade or soldered) should be checked individually: oxidation, looseness in the crimping or worn gold plating degrade contact and can introduce parasitic noise. A continuity test remains the best way to ensure there is no invisible break in the OFC copper conductor.
