Description
The ATF25 from Positive Cable is a cable connecting amplifier and speakers whose geometry has been designed to disappear into the decor. Where a conventional round cable requires a sheath or dedicated conduit, this one adopts a flat profile that lies flush against surfaces and goes unnoticed once installed.
Its design is based on a 2.5 mm² cross-section in OFC copper. A generous cross-section of this type comes into its own over long distances: the longer the run between the amplifier and the speaker, the greater the resistance of the conductor, and a comfortable cross-section helps limit this constraint. This is precisely the scenario targeted here, that of speakers positioned at the opposite end of a room from the electronics.
The white sheath is the second focus of this cable. Flat and flexible, it follows the angles of a wall, slips above or below a skirting board, and can be hidden under a rug or carpet. It also accepts paint, allowing it to be matched to the colour of the wall or woodwork it runs along.
This profile is typically suited to a home cinema installation in an already decorated interior, where one wishes neither to chase cables into walls nor to run an exposed cable. It is particularly aimed at connecting effects, side or rear channels, whose run is often the longest and most constrained in a multichannel installation.

What to check before buying used
With this type of flat cable, attention should focus on the sheath and connectors rather than the conductor itself. Check that the paintable white covering has not yellowed or developed irreversible creases at angles where it has been pressed against a wall. Also check for any cuts or nicks in the sheath, which would expose the OFC copper, as well as the condition of the ends if terminals or spade connectors have been crimped on.
