Podspeakers MicroPod Subwoofer
Compact subwoofer from Podspeakers, with integrated Class D amplification, designed to reinforce a stereo or home cinema system without taking up space.
Description
The MicroPod Sub is a compact subwoofer designed by Podspeakers to complement a speaker system, whether stereo or 5.1 home cinema. Its reduced footprint allows it to be easily hidden within a room while delivering bass reproduction powerful enough to fill large volumes.
The cabinet is made from MDF (medium-density fibreboard), a material valued for its mechanical inertia, which limits unwanted vibrations from the enclosure. It houses a 6.5-inch long-throw woofer, specifically designed to offer a response that is both deep and fast, capable of blending seamlessly with the system's main speakers.
Amplification is provided by a 100-watt digital Class D module, integrated into the subwoofer. This combination allows the MicroPod Sub to deliver impact when the soundstage demands it, while remaining agile on lighter passages, a balance sought for both music listening and film viewing.
This subwoofer is aimed at users who wish to reinforce the bass of an existing installation without sacrificing the room's aesthetics or available space, whether for a compact stereo setup or a multichannel home cinema system.
What to check before buying used
The suspensions of the 6.5-inch long-throw woofer deserve a visual check: sagging or unusual stiffness indicates a worn part. Listen to the integrated Class D amplifier module on a sustained bass signal to detect any hum or premature thermal cut-out. Also check the condition of the MDF cabinet, particularly the corners and the woofer mounting, which are key to the inertia sought in this compact format.
