Description
The Microsub 2.1 is a subwoofer fitted with a built-in stereo amplifier, designed to form a complete system from a simple audio source and an existing pair of speakers, whether Podspeakers models or other brands. It connects directly to a CD player, a DVD player, an MP3 player, a television or a computer, without the need for a separate power amplifier.
The built-in amplification delivers 2x12 Watts RMS for the satellites and 28 Watts RMS for the subwoofer, at an impedance of 4 Ohms, with a stated frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Separate controls for frequency, satellites and subwoofer allow independent adjustment of the bass level and the satellite speaker level according to the room and listening preferences.
This system is aimed at those wishing to enhance the sound of a portable device or a multimedia source without installing a complete hi-fi system, by reusing speakers already in their possession. It is suited to close-range listening, in an office, bedroom or small living room, where a simple bass boost is required.

What to check before buying used
With this type of amplified subwoofer, attention should first be paid to the built-in electronics: check for the absence of hum, crackling or cutouts at the frequency, satellite and subwoofer control potentiometers. The speaker input and output sockets are worth checking for good contact, as is the mains lead. A test at gradually increasing volume also helps to ensure that the woofer shows no unwanted noise or abnormal distortion.
