Description
The Minx Min12 is a compact speaker from Cambridge Audio, designed to blend into any interior. About the size of a Rubik's Cube, it is intended for discreet integration while delivering a developed sound, provided it is paired with other elements of the Minx system, such as a dedicated subwoofer.
It houses a 4th generation Balanced Mode Radiator, or BMR, driver. This technology differs from conventional piston or flat-panel drivers through horizontal vibration modes that combine vertical and horizontal dispersion. The result is 180° sound coverage, which simplifies speaker placement since no preferred listening zone is required. The driver is mounted on a die-cast aluminium exoskeleton, housed within a gloss-lacquered ABS enclosure.
The 86 dB sensitivity and 8 ohm compatible impedance allow it to be paired with amplifiers delivering between 25 and 200 W. Its frequency response, from 150 Hz to 20 kHz, shows that it is designed to cover the midrange and treble, with bass reproduction handled by a complementary Minx subwoofer.
Sold individually, the Min12 is aimed at those wishing to build a modular system, in multichannel or discreet compact configuration, in a living room, office or any space where the bulk of traditional speakers is not practical. Its size and reduced weight of 0.43 kg allow for wall or stand mounting, using dedicated accessories.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, check the condition of the gloss-lacquered enclosure, which is prone to scratches and visible wear of the varnish, as well as the integrity of the BMR driver and its aluminium exoskeleton, which should be free of deformation or play. Checking the connections and testing playback across the full stated frequency range helps ensure there is no distortion or crackling, particularly at the extremes of the bandwidth.
