Description
The Minx Min22 is a compact speaker from Cambridge Audio, designed to take up very little space while ensuring even sound distribution throughout the room. It belongs to the Minx range, designed to be paired with other speakers from the same family, including Minx subwoofers, to form a complete system.
Its central technical feature is the balanced mode radiator driver, or BMR, fitted here in its 4th generation. Unlike a conventional piston-type driver, this type of transducer combines horizontal vibration modes that allow for 180° vertical and horizontal sound dispersion. In practice, this means there is no true single listening sweet spot: the sound remains precise and detailed wherever you are in the room, at both low and high volume.
The BMR driver is mounted on a die-cast aluminium exoskeleton, integrated into a gloss-lacquered ABS cabinet. This construction aims to maintain good rigidity despite the speaker's small size, which weighs just 0.75 kg for dimensions of 78 x 154 x 85 mm. The stated sensitivity is 88 dB for a 2.83 Vrms input, with a frequency response of 120 Hz to 20 kHz and an 8 ohm-compatible impedance. The recommended amplification power ranges from 25 to 200 W.
This compact format and placement flexibility make the Minx Min22 suitable for a variety of uses: a desk speaker, a satellite in a home cinema setup, or a centre dialogue speaker when mounted horizontally on a table stand. It works equally well in a discreet stereo installation or a multichannel system, complemented by a subwoofer from the same range to reinforce the bass.
The Min22 speakers feature connection terminals for speaker cables, supplied with banana plugs, as well as a recessed threaded fitting compatible with the included wall bracket or other dedicated Cambridge Audio accessories, such as floor stands or a table stand for horizontal mounting.

What to check before buying used
The BMR driver is a fragile transducer: check for any deformation, cracking or denting on its surface, as an impact could affect its 180° dispersion. Also check the gloss-lacquered ABS cabinet, which is prone to micro-scratches and loss of gloss, as well as the fixing of the aluminium exoskeleton to the cabinet. Finally, test the connection terminals at the rear, as their tightness can loosen over time.
