Description
The Cayin Soul 170i Wood is a valve integrated amplifier, designed to drive speakers directly without going through a separate power stage. It draws on the architecture of the Cayin A-845 Pro, with a push-pull design in class AB, and is built using hand-crafted point-to-point wiring.
The unit uses four types of tubes with distinct roles: KT170 for the power stage, ECC83S for signal amplification, 6SN7 for musicality, and 22DE4 for the power supply. This architecture delivers 2 x 75 watts in triode mode or 2 x 130 watts in ultra-linear mode, with a frequency response of 5 Hz to 50 kHz and total harmonic distortion of 0.2% at 1 kHz. A bias adjustment system, accessible on the upper front panel with a built-in indicator, allows the operation of the power tubes to be monitored and adjusted.
The connectivity includes three unbalanced RCA inputs, one balanced XLR input and one pre-in input, allowing the unit to be used as a simple power stage in a system already equipped with a preamplifier. Two subwoofer outputs allow for the addition of one or two subwoofers, while the speaker terminals accept 4 and 8 ohm loads.
