Description
The Mojo 2 is a portable headphone DAC amp designed by Chord Electronics to convert and amplify the digital audio signal from a smartphone, tablet, music player, games console or computer. It sits between the source and the headphones to deliver a more precise sound, bypassing the built-in audio circuitry of mobile devices.
The device is built around an optimised FPGA processor, inherited from the technology used in the brand's Hugo and Dave models. It delivers an output power of 2x600 mW into 30 ohms, allowing it to drive headphones of varying impedance without lacking dynamics. Total harmonic distortion measured at 0.0003% and a dynamic range of 125 dB reflect sound reproduction with a very low level of added noise, while an output impedance of 0.075 ohms limits the amp's influence on the behaviour of the connected headphones.
The Mojo 2 accepts streams up to PCM 32-bit / 768 kHz and DSD 256, via its micro USB, USB-C, mini-jack coaxial or Toslink optical inputs, the latter limited to 192 kHz / 24-bit. It features two mini-jack 3.5 mm headphone outputs, an equalisation function, channel balance adjustment and a desktop mode. Volume control is via a backlit spherical button, with coloured LEDs indicating the active input, sample rate, volume level and battery charge status.
Running on mains power or a rechargeable battery, it offers around eight hours of battery life for a full charge of approximately four hours. Its aircraft-grade aluminium casing enhances its resistance to portable use. Paired with the Chord Poly, it can also serve as a storage server or portable network player streamer, controllable wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet.

What to check before buying used
Check that the micro USB or USB-C port accepts charging and data transfer without loose contact, a common wear point on this frequently handled device. Check that the illuminated sphere and spherical volume control buttons work correctly, as these can become imprecise over time. The actual battery life should be tested, as it naturally decreases after several hundred charge cycles. Also inspect the polymer casing for any marks or deformation resulting from intensive portable use.
