Description
The Jubilee is a moving coil (MC) cartridge from Clearaudio, designed to be fitted to a turntable's tonearm. It converts the micro-vibrations of the groove into an electrical signal by means of a Micro Line stylus mounted on a boron cantilever, the whole assembly being housed in an aluminium/magnesium body with a ceramic surface.
The OFC copper (oxygen-free copper) coil contributes to the quality of signal transmission, with an output level of 0.40 mV and an impedance of 11 ohms. The compliance of 9/9 U/nm and the recommended tracking force of 2 g determine how the cartridge should be set up on the tonearm for correct groove tracking. The stated frequency response spans from 20 Hz to 40 kHz, and the whole unit weighs 8 g.
This cartridge is intended for a user with a tonearm and a phono preamplifier compatible with an MC output, the latter generally requiring a higher gain level than an MM cartridge. What to check before buying used
The Micro Line stylus and boron cantilever are vulnerable to impact: check for a blunted tip or a misaligned cantilever, which would indicate a fall or impact on the groove. Also consider the wear hours on the stylus, which are difficult to estimate without a precise usage history, and examine the internal suspension: compliance that has sagged over time can affect groove tracking even if the aluminium/magnesium body shows no visible marks. The connectors on the rear of the body also warrant inspection, as any loose contact could degrade the already weak signal of an MC output.
