Description
The Tracer is a radial tonearm designed to equip a high-fidelity turntable. It fits a mounting hole in the Clearaudio format, with a bore diameter of 24.85 mm, and is used to replace or equip a turntable for playing vinyl records.
The arm tube is made of carbon, a material that combines lightness and rigidity: this construction limits parasitic resonances while keeping the moving mass low. The arm's movement relies on a horizontal sapphire bearing combined with a vertical ball bearing, an architecture aimed at minimal friction for precise groove tracking. The suspended-type counterweight makes it easy to adjust the tracking force by optimally positioning the centre of gravity, while a micrometric vernier allows this weight to be adjusted with precision. The aluminium headshell allows azimuth adjustment, and anti-skating force is set via an accessible dial. The arm is supplied with a 1.1 m Clearaudio Direct Wire Plus connecting cable, terminated with RCA MPC plugs.
This tonearm is suited to vinyl enthusiasts wishing to equip a turntable with a component capable of accommodating cartridges weighing between 3 g and 17 g, offering compatibility with a wide range of MM or MC cartridges.

What to check before buying used
On this type of tonearm, points to check mainly concern the condition of the sapphire and tungsten bearings, which should remain free of play or noise when the arm moves. Also check that the micrometric weight-adjustment vernier and the anti-skating dial function correctly, as well as the condition of the Direct Wire Plus cable and its RCA plugs, which are often used during cartridge changes.
