Description
The Consonance Calaf MKII is a stereo integrated amplifier built on a Dual Mono architecture: each channel, left and right, operates as an independent mono power amplifier. It combines the preamplification stage and the power stage in a single chassis, with a relay-switched input selector and five remote-controllable inputs.
Each channel has its own toroidal transformer with independent secondary windings and a bank of eight 10,000 µF electrolytic capacitors, ensuring a stable, dedicated power supply for each channel. The power stage relies on seven pairs of high-current transistors per channel, mounted on a thick copper bus bar, an arrangement that favours current handling into difficult loads. What to check before buying used
On an amplifier of this power and weight, it is worth checking the condition of the input switching relays, which are prone to wear after many switching cycles.
