Cyrus 40 PSU

The 40 PSU is neither a source nor an amplifier: it is a power supply unit intended to take over from the internal power supply of a Cyrus 40 series component. The principle involves relocating the part that converts mains current into a separate chassis, in order to move it away from the audio circuits and provide them with a cleaner voltage. It is connected to the relevant electronics via a dedicated cable, and the system otherwise retains exactly the same configuration.

Its distinguishing feature lies in microprocessor management: the 40 PSU identifies the component to which it is connected and delivers the power profile that matches it, rather than a single voltage. This translates into a fairly wide set of outputs, with a +24 V DC line, a regulated range from +10 to +45 V DC, and an unregulated output of +45 or +56 V DC depending on requirements. The input is 230 V AC. A regulated output typically serves noise-sensitive stages, while an unregulated line at higher voltage powers circuits requiring current headroom.

The expected effects differ depending on the associated component. On the 40 AMP, the contribution concerns amplification, with a reproduction claimed to be more precise and more detailed. On the 40 ST, the unit powers the analogue section and the network module, aiming for a more stable and fuller sound image. On the 40 CD, the cleaner power supply benefits the transport motors and the clock, two elements whose stability directly determines playback.

This type of product is aimed at an owner of already installed Cyrus 40 series electronics, seeking to progress through addition rather than replacement. It also requires a shelf or unit capable of accommodating an additional enclosure and managing one more connecting cable. Outside this ecosystem, the unit has no use: it is not a universal mains conditioner intended for any electronics.
