Description
The Cyrus 8XPd Qx is a stereo integrated amplifier that also incorporates a digital-to-analogue converter, the Qx DAC. It thus combines two functions usually kept separate into a single compact unit, which simplifies a system by limiting the number of components and cables required between digital sources and speakers.
Its power output of 2 × 70 W into 8 Ω, rising to 150 W into 4 Ω, allows it to drive speakers with varying impedance without losing control. The built-in Qx DAC operates with 24-bit/192 kHz oversampling, with total harmonic distortion below 0.002% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 110 dBA, figures that reflect precise, low-noise digital conversion. Connectivity is comprehensive for an integrated amplifier: six analogue inputs, two coaxial inputs, two optical inputs and one USB input allow connection of conventional analogue sources as well as a computer or a network player.
The unit can be upgraded with an optional external power supply, the PSX-R, which complements the internal 330 VA transformer. The chassis, die-cast in magnesium alloy, is a design signature specific to Cyrus, engineered for mechanical rigidity and vibration control.

What to check before buying used
The motorised potentiometer may develop crackling or a channel imbalance after many years of use, which should be checked across the full range of the volume control. The capacitors in the power supply and output stages lose performance over time, which can result in hum or a loss of dynamics. Each input should also be tested, particularly the USB and digital connections of the Qx DAC, along with the secure fit of the socket for the external PSX-R power supply.
