Description
The Classic Amp is a stereo integrated amplifier from Cyrus, designed as an evolution of a range that has featured in the catalogue for over a decade. It combines an analogue power stage with digital inputs to centralise several sources around a single unit.
The power stage delivers 91 W per channel into 6 ohms, with a wideband design capable of responding from direct current to beyond 50 kHz: this results in a flat frequency response and minimal phase shift across the entire audio band. For headphone listening, the dedicated amplifier provides 2 x 138 mW into 16 ohms with total harmonic distortion below 0.1%, ensuring a clean rendition even at low levels. The SPDIF digital inputs accept formats from 16-bit/44.1 kHz up to 24-bit/192 kHz, with support for DSD up to DSD512 and DoP up to DoP128, opening the way to using high-resolution digital sources.
The connectivity includes four analogue inputs, one MM phono input, two optical inputs, two coaxial digital inputs, one unbalanced analogue preamplifier output and one 3.5 mm headphone output.
This Classic Amp is aimed at a compact stereo system where one wishes to combine a turntable fitted with an MM cartridge, a variety of digital sources and headphone listening, without multiplying the number of units and cables.

What to check before buying used
On an integrated amplifier of this type, the volume potentiometer and input switches are the first elements to test: crackling or dropouts when turning the dial or switching source often point to a dirty contact. Also check the proper functioning of the MM phono input, as well as signal stability on the optical and coaxial digital inputs. Checking the condition of the internal capacitors, which are prone to ageing over the years, remains advisable on a unit that has already been in circulation for some time.
