The Classic Power is the stereo power amplifier that completes Cyrus's Classic series. Lacking any preamplification, it sits downstream of a preamplifier or a variable-output source and is devoted solely to the final amplification of the two channels. Its development draws on the achievements of the brand's XR series, reinterpreted within the technical and pricing framework of the Classic range.
The stated power output varies according to load: 2 x 87 W into 8 ohms, 2 x 110 W into 6 ohms and 2 x 144 W into 4 ohms. This steady rise as impedance drops reflects a power supply capable of keeping pace with current demand, which matters when driving speakers whose impedance falls below their nominal value. Total harmonic distortion plus noise remains below 0.002% at 1 kHz at two-thirds power into 6 ohms, and the unweighted signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 100 dB. What to check before buying used
On a power amplifier of this type, start by listening to both channels separately at moderate volume: hiss, hum or a level imbalance usually points to an ageing power supply or a tired output stage. Check the condition of the speaker terminals and XLR connectors, which are often worn by repeated plugging in and out, as well as for any signs of overheating around the heatsinks. A unit that has spent a long time driving 4 ohm loads deserves particular attention to the temperature reached after an hour of operation, and needs clear ventilation in everyday use.
