Description
The Dali E-9 F is a compact active subwoofer, designed to complement a stereo or home cinema system without taking up excessive floor space. It can be connected either to the LFE output of a home cinema amplifier, or to a stereo signal via its RCA line input.
It features a 230 mm woofer with an aluminium cone, chosen for its rigidity and lightness, paired with a rubber surround offering large excursion, a generous magnet system and a substantial four-layer voice coil. This design allows for significant air displacement, complemented by a bass-reflex port tuned to 39 Hz. The stated result is a frequency response of 37 to 200 Hz and a maximum sound pressure level of 111 dB.
Amplification is digital, with a power output of 170 W RMS continuous and up to 220 W RMS peak. Input impedance is 25 kOhms. The subwoofer offers the usual controls: volume, crossover frequency adjustable between 40 and 120 Hz, and a selector allowing the sound to be adapted to the room's acoustics.
This subwoofer is aimed at home cinema or stereo enthusiasts wishing to reinforce the bass of a compact system, particularly with modestly sized speakers such as those in the brand's Zensor or Fazon ranges, without requiring a large amount of floor space.

What to check before buying used
Check that the woofer shows no tears or sagging of the rubber surround, which could cause a rubbing noise at high volume. Listen to the bass at several levels to detect any possible dropout from the digital amplification, and test the crossover selector as well as the volume potentiometer, whose contact may crackle with age. Finally, check the condition of the bass-reflex port and the RCA connections at the rear of the subwoofer.
