Description
The Dali Epicon 2 is a 2-way bookshelf speaker that forms the entry point into the Danish manufacturer's Epicon reference range. Despite its compact format, it incorporates technological solutions derived from the Epicon 6 and Epicon 8 floorstanding speakers in the same series.
It pairs a 16.5 cm midrange/woofer driver with a paper and wood fibre cone to a 29 mm textile dome tweeter, in a 2-way Bass-Reflex configuration. The driver features SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) technology, designed to limit distortion caused by eddy currents, flux variations, coil inductance and hysteresis in the motor. The cabinet is built from six bonded layers of MDF, with a 35 mm thick front baffle, a structure intended to limit cabinet resonances.
In terms of measurements, the speaker offers a frequency response of 47 Hz to 30 kHz, a sensitivity of 87 dB/W/m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, for a maximum sound level of 108 dB. The crossover point is 3.1 kHz and the power handling ranges between 30 and 200 W, which implies an amplifier capable of delivering power suited to this range.
This bookshelf format is intended for use in a small or medium-sized listening room, on dedicated stands or wall-mounted, for a 2-channel stereo system. A dedicated stand, the Epicon Stand, is available as an option for this model.

What to check before buying used
Check the cabinet edges and top for marks or veneer chips, areas where handling knocks tend to leave traces. The suspensions of the 16.5 cm midrange/woofer driver should remain supple and symmetrical, with no sagging or hardening that would indicate damp storage. Also check the tweeter's textile dome, which is sensitive to dents from touch, and ensure there is no play or unwanted noise in the bass-reflex port.
