Description
The Dali Oberon 5 is a compact floorstanding speaker suited to both hi-fi installations and home cinema configurations. It comprises two 5¼-inch wood fibre drivers and a lightweight 29 mm tweeter offering wide sound dispersion, all housed in a rounded-edge cabinet covered with a fabric front and resting on an integrated aluminium base.
The drivers incorporate Dali's patented SMC technology, a system that caps the ferric core of the magnet to reduce mechanical distortion and, consequently, third-order distortion. The cone, made of paper pulp reinforced with wood fibre, is mounted on a low-loss suspension and a cast aluminium basket, promoting an accurate rendering of signal detail even at low volume. The crossover frequency is 2.4 kHz, the frequency response spans 39 Hz to 26 kHz, and the stated sensitivity is 88 dB (1 W / 1 m) for a nominal impedance of 6 ohms.
With a maximum sound level of 108 dB and recommended amplification between 30 W and 150 W, this speaker is suited to a moderate to intermediate power amplifier. It will suit a living room or medium-sized listening space, whether in stereo configuration or as the front of a home cinema system.

What to check before buying used
The suspensions of the 5¼-inch drivers deserve close inspection: sagging or torn foam indicates ageing that affects bass reproduction. Also check the condition of the fabric front, often discoloured or stretched after many years of exposure, as well as the cabinet and aluminium base for signs of impact, scratches or loosening. A test at moderate volume also allows you to confirm the absence of unwanted noise or distortion on the tweeter and on both bass drivers.
