What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the wood fibre woofer: the surround and spider should be free of tears or sagging, with no rubbing noise at high volume. Also inspect the tweeter dome, which is often fragile and prone to impact damage and fingerprint marks. Examine the front bass-reflex port and the cabinet (corners, finish) for any signs of transport damage, and test both channels at moderate and high volume to detect any distortion or a channel that is weaker than the other.
