Description
The Opticon 1 MKII is a compact bookshelf speaker from Dali, designed to be positioned close to the walls of a listening room. Its small footprint does not prevent it from delivering an extended bass register, integrated with the rest of the sound spectrum, making it suitable for living rooms and offices where available space remains limited.
The hybrid tweeter combines a 29 mm soft dome, derived from the Callisto range, with a 17 x 45 mm ribbon mounted on a moulded aluminium front plate. This combination aims to bring together the clarity and dynamics of a dome with the fine detail characteristic of a ribbon tweeter, while optimising control over sound dispersion. The Dual Flare reflex port system, of laminar type, reduces air turbulence for deeper and better-controlled bass output. The magnetic motor system incorporates SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite), a material with high magnetic permeability and low electrical conductivity that limits eddy currents and magnetic hysteresis, thereby reducing electro-acoustic distortion.
This speaker is aimed at listeners with a small to medium-sized listening room who want natural, detailed sound reproduction without adding bulk. Its design, which allows placement close to walls, makes it a suitable solution for configurations where installing larger speakers is not feasible.

What to check before buying used
The driver suspensions deserve close inspection: the rubber or fabric surround can harden or crack over time, affecting the bass performance rated down to 62 Hz. The ribbon tweeter, more fragile than a conventional dome, should show no deformation of its front plate nor any audible distortion at high volume. Checking the Dual Flare reflex port and its alignment within the vent is also recommended, as is inspecting the cabinet and rear connectors for play or signs of oxidation.
