Description
The Dali Opticon 6 MKII is a bass-reflex floorstanding speaker designed and manufactured in Denmark. It belongs to the Opticon MKII range, the second generation of a series that retains the brand's acoustic fundamentals while incorporating new developments to the tweeter and the ports.
Its distinctive technical feature is the hybrid tweeter, which combines a 29 mm soft dome derived from the Callisto range with a 17 x 45 mm ribbon mounted on a die-cast aluminium front plate. This combination aims to bring together the speed and dynamics typical of a dome with the refined reproduction of a ribbon at the highest frequencies. Frequency response extends from 49 Hz to 30 kHz, with a bass-reflex tuning of 43.5 Hz provided by laminar-type ports called Dual Flare, designed to limit air turbulence and improve driver efficiency at low frequencies. The crossover distributes the signal across three crossover points, at 800 Hz, 2.2 kHz and 14 kHz. The magnetic motor also uses an SMC material with high magnetic permeability and low electrical conductivity, intended to reduce eddy currents and the resulting electro-acoustic distortion.
With a sensitivity of 88 dB/W/m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, this speaker requires an amplifier capable of delivering comfortable current; the recommended power range spans from 25 to 200 watts, and the maximum sound level reaches 110 dB. Its dimensions of 195 x 1001 x 330 mm and weight of 19.3 kg make it a model suited to medium to large listening rooms, where it can fully deploy its bass register.

What to check before buying used
The surrounds on the woofers deserve close inspection: hardened, cracked or sagging foam indicates ageing that affects bass reproduction. The hybrid tweeter, with its fragile ribbon, should be checked by listening to the treble for any tearing or loss of brightness. The cabinet (veneer, edges, chips) and the Dual Flare ports should also be inspected, as they must show no cracks or deformation that could affect the bass-reflex tuning.
