Description
The Sonik 5 is a 2-way floorstanding speaker from Dali, designed with a bass-reflex loading using Dual Flare technology. Its slim format (249 x 826 x 270 mm) allows it to fit into rooms where the footprint of a classic floorstanding speaker would be a problem, while retaining the advantages of a floorstanding format: vertical dispersion and greater bass presence than a bookshelf speaker.
The acoustic setup combines two 13.3 cm woofers with a Clarity Cone wood-fibre membrane, fitted with SMC technology, and a 29 mm textile dome tweeter. The crossover point sits at 2.2 kHz, dividing the work between the woofers and the tweeter. The frequency response extends from 39 Hz to 26 kHz (+/- 3 dB), with a sensitivity of 88 dB/w/m and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms. The maximum sound level reaches 108 dB, for a recommended amplification power of between 30 and 150 W.
The cabinet is reinforced with MDF, a structural choice that limits parasitic cabinet vibrations and contributes to bass control. The speaker rests on metal decoupling feet.

What to check before buying used
On this slim floorstanding format, the suspension of the two woofers deserves a visual check: hardened, cracked or detached foam or rubber surrounds indicate a unit that has aged and affects bass control. The tweeter's textile dome, very exposed on this 2-way configuration, must show no dents or signs of handling. Also check the MDF cabinetry on the faces and edges (knocks, chips, veneer lifting) as well as the fixing of the metal decoupling feet, which sometimes come loose during a house move.
