Description
The Sonik 9 is a floorstanding speaker from Dali, designed as a 2.5 + 1.5-way with bass-reflex loading, intended to fill large rooms for both music listening and home cinema setups.
It features three 17.7 cm midrange/woofer drivers with a wood-fibre Clarity Cone diaphragm, combined with Dali's patented SMC technology: this combination aims to deliver bass that is both deep and precise, with better distortion control at high levels. The treble is handled by a 29 mm textile dome tweeter and a 17 x 45 mm magnetic planar ribbon tweeter, a dual high-frequency transducer architecture that widens dispersion and refines detail at the top of the spectrum. Frequency response extends from 34 Hz to 30 kHz (+/- 3 dB), with a sensitivity of 90 dB /w/m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, for a stated maximum sound level of 111 dB. The bass-reflex loading is based on Dual Flare technology, and the reinforced MDF cabinet, combined with metal decoupling feet, contributes to the mechanical rigidity of the unit.

What to check before buying used
The Clarity Cone diaphragms and suspensions of the three woofer drivers deserve a visual check, as does the condition of the planar ribbon tweeter, which is more fragile than a conventional dome when it comes to knocks or rough handling. Also check that the metal decoupling feet are all present and securely fixed to the cabinet, and listen to each channel separately to detect any crackling or loss of bass-reflex loading.
