The Stentaure LE is a 2-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker, designed and manufactured in France by Davis Acoustics. It stands out for its high efficiency, which allows it to work with a wide range of amplifiers, including models of modest power.
The top of the spectrum is handled by a PEEK dome tweeter paired with a compression chamber and acoustic horn, a design that favours precise transient response and good sound dispersion. The bass and midrange are handled by two 17 cm woofers with cellulose pulp cones, which allow the speaker to reach down to 40 Hz. What to check before buying used
After several years, the surrounds of the two 17 cm cellulose pulp woofers may stiffen or crack: a visual check and listening at moderate volume can help detect sagging bass or a rubbing noise. The PEEK tweeter horn and its compression chamber should be free of impact damage or cracks, which could affect the precision of the top of the spectrum. Also check the cabinet (veneer, corners, condition of the bass-reflex port) and ensure there is no play in the input terminal connectors.
