Description
The Stentaure LE is a 2-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker from Davis Acoustics. It combines a PEEK dome tweeter mounted on a compression chamber and acoustic horn with two 17 cm woofer-midranges with cellulose cones, in an assembly designed to reproduce music with dynamics and presence.
The horn-loaded tweeter, inherited from professional sound reinforcement techniques, channels sound energy and improves definition in the treble. The two cellulose-pulp woofer-midranges reach down to 40 Hz, for a stated frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz. The 95 dB sensitivity places this floorstanding speaker among high-efficiency models: it requires little power to deliver a high sound level. The 4-8 Ω impedance and power handling of 120 W RMS (180 W peak) allow it to be paired with amplifiers of varying ranges, including low or medium power ones.

What to check before buying used
The surrounds of the two 17 cm woofer-midranges deserve close inspection: cellulose can stiffen or tear with age, which affects bass reproduction. Also check the horn of the compression-chamber tweeter, sensitive to knocks and handling marks, as well as the flatness of its mounting. Finally, inspect the walnut cabinetry (veneer, corners, bass-reflex ports) for any swelling or delamination linked to humidity.
