The Denon Home 400 is a standalone wireless connected speaker, capable of delivering stereo sound compatible with Dolby Atmos Music. It incorporates two upward-firing drivers that add a vertical dimension to the sound stage, in addition to the traditional channels. It operates within the HEOS ecosystem for setup, streaming and expansion to other speakers within the same system.
The speaker is built around a set of six drivers arranged in three ways, with a sealed enclosure: two 19 mm tweeters for the treble, two 25 mm midrange drivers and two 114 mm woofers. Each way is driven by a dedicated Class D amplifier, six amplifiers in total, allowing independent control of each transducer. Treble and bass tone controls are available to adjust the sound according to the room or listening preferences.
In terms of connectivity, the Denon Home 400 supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and AirPlay 2, as well as Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Spotify Connect services, and it is Roon Ready certified. A built-in microphone, which can be disabled, allows voice control via Siri. Wireless stereo pairing with a second identical speaker is possible, as is integration into a larger HEOS multiroom system.

What to check before buying used
Check the voice control microphone and its disable switch, often a source of malfunction after prolonged use. Test each way separately: the six Class D amplifiers driving the tweeters, midrange drivers and woofers should produce even sound without crackling or dropouts on any of the ways. Also make sure Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2 and HEOS integration connect normally, as these modules may require a software update after a period of inactivity.
