The Confidence 20 is a 2-way bookshelf speaker from Dynaudio, designed to offer some of the technical solutions developed on the largest models in the Confidence range, in a compact format intended to be placed on a stand. It follows a logic of precise sound reproduction, conceived for installations where footprint must remain limited without sacrificing sound quality.
The speaker pairs a 28 mm Esotar3 soft dome tweeter with an 18 cm NeoTec MSP woofer. The tweeter benefits from a neodymium magnet system, an enlarged rear chamber and optimised ventilation, as well as an internal Hexis dome intended to stabilise resonances: these choices aim to improve detail and clarity at the top of the spectrum. The woofer, also fitted with a neodymium magnet, uses an aluminium voice coil mounted on a fibreglass former, combined with a ventilation system machined directly into the magnet, with the aim of delivering controlled bass and precise midrange.
The configuration adopted is a bass-reflex architecture with a lower port and a 2nd order crossover, with a crossover frequency set at 2325 Hz. The sensitivity of 87 dB (2.83 V / 1 m) and the nominal impedance of 6 Ω, with a minimum of 5 Ω at 155 Hz, place this speaker in a category that requires an amplifier capable of delivering a stable current. The stated frequency response at ± 3 dB extends from 42 Hz to 22 kHz, and the IEC power handling is 250 W.

What to check before buying used
On a speaker that has stood on its feet for a long time, check the condition of the 18 cm woofer's suspension: sagging or hardening of the surround affects bass performance. Also inspect the Esotar3 tweeter dome, very exposed to finger or cloth damage during handling. The cabinet deserves a careful check of the corners and veneer, as well as the connection terminals at the rear, sometimes oxidised or loose on an older unit. Finally, ask whether the original stand, whose weight and dimensions are specific to this model, is included with the speaker.
