Description
The Confidence 30 occupies the place of a large three-way floorstanding speaker in Dynaudio's range: 1337 mm in height by 222 mm in width, extending to 364 x 1382 x 424 mm once the feet and grille are fitted, and 44.2 kg on the scale. Its loading is bass-reflex with a downward-firing port, an arrangement that makes bass coupling less dependent on distance from the rear wall than a front- or rear-firing port.
The tweeter is a 28 mm Esotar3 dome, surrounded by a DDC lens designed to shape dispersion. It takes over at 3700 Hz from a 15 cm MSP midrange, which is itself crossed at 290 Hz with two 18 cm MSP woofers. The crossover adopts a 2nd order topology, less steep than a higher-order filter and generally gentler in phase around the crossover points.
These figures describe a speaker that is demanding on amplification. A sensitivity of 88 dB is average, but the nominal impedance of 4 Ω, combined with a dip to 2.8 Ω in the upper bass, calls for an amplifier capable of delivering current without faltering on low loads. The 350 W handling capacity also leaves a comfortable margin for level peaks in a large room.
This model is aimed at listeners with a sizeable listening space and power electronics to match, within a stereo system intended for seated, attentive listening. Reaching down to 38 Hz without a subwoofer covers most acoustic and orchestral repertoire, provided a few tens of centimetres are left beneath the lower port: the use of the supplied feet and a stable support directly conditions the bass performance.

What to check before buying used
On the used market, a floorstanding speaker of this size warrants a few targeted checks. The MSP diaphragms of the woofers and midrange should be free of dents, hairline cracks around the edges, and traces of detached glue on the surround. The Esotar3 dome should be inspected under raking light for any indentation or separation, along with the surrounding lens: this is a part that matters both visually and acoustically. Each driver should also be listened to separately at low volume to detect any voice coil rubbing, the connection terminals and front baffle fixing should be examined, and the inside of the lower port should be inspected. Finally, the weight of 44.2 kg per speaker makes knocks to the edges and feet common during house moves: the condition of the finish and base plate deserves careful examination.
