Description
The Confidence 60 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker from Dynaudio, designed for high-precision sound reproduction in a demanding hi-fi system. It combines a soft dome tweeter, two woofers and two midrange drivers, all housed in a cabinet crafted from fine wood.
The 28 mm Esotar 3 tweeter relies on a neodymium magnet system and an internal Hexis dome designed to limit internal resonances, promoting a refined treble reproduction. The two 23 cm woofers, built with MSP technology, use a copper voice coil mounted on a three-layer fibreglass cylinder, paired with a ventilation system machined directly into the magnet: this design aims for bass that is both powerful and controlled. The midrange drivers, also in MSP, feature a cone surround called Horizon, which sits flush with the baffle to reduce acoustic diffraction and widen the driver's usable working surface. The 3-way crossover applies cut-off points at 200 Hz and 2580 Hz, at 2nd and 3rd order depending on the frequency range. The stated frequency response spans from 29 Hz to 22 kHz, with a sensitivity of 87 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, with a minimum of 3.7 ohms at 71 Hz.
This type of speaker is aimed at a high-end two-channel or home cinema hi-fi system, in a listening room large enough to make the most of its deep bass and imposing size. What to check before buying used
The cabinet, particularly heavy and bulky on this model, deserves a thorough inspection of the veneer and corners, which are often marked during removals. The surrounds of the two 23 cm MSP woofers should remain supple and symmetrical, with no cracking or visible sagging. The Esotar 3 dome, highly exposed on the front baffle, should show no signs of impact or oxidation that would indicate unsuitable storage. Finally, check that the two Horizon-surround midrange drivers sit perfectly flush with the baffle, with no lifting or play.
