Description
The Contour 20i is a 2-way rear-ported bass-reflex bookshelf speaker designed by Dynaudio to surpass the brand's previous floorstanding Contour models. It sits on dedicated stands or any support suited to its dimensions, within a stereo system dedicated to music listening.
Its Esotar2i tweeter, derived from the Esotar2, features an enlarged rear chamber for more effective damping as well as an inner Hexis dome, a technology originally developed for the Confidence and Core ranges. This design aims to flatten the frequency response and reduce unwanted resonances at the top end of the spectrum. The woofer, an 18 cm magnesium silicate polymer (MSP) unit, retains the lightweight aluminium voice coil and vented double-ferrite magnet system from previous versions, but receives a new aramid-fibre spider suspension, intended to refine the cone's behaviour.
In terms of measurements, the speaker offers a sensitivity of 86 dB (2.83 V / 1 m), an impedance of 4 Ω and IEC power handling of 180 W. The frequency response is stated as 39 Hz to 23 kHz (± 3 dB), with a crossover frequency set at 2,200 Hz and a 2nd-order crossover topology.
This speaker is aimed at demanding stereo listeners looking for a pair capable of delivering detailed treble and controlled bass, within a living-room hi-fi system or a small dedicated listening room.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the woofer cone and its aramid suspension, which can become stiff or crack over time, as well as the integrity of the Esotar2i tweeter dome, which is particularly sensitive to impact and deformation. It is also useful to check the condition of the rear bass-reflex port and confirm there is no play or unwanted noise from the drivers when listening at different volume levels.
