Description
The Contour 60i is a 3-way floorstanding speaker from the Danish brand Dynaudio, designed in a bass-reflex configuration with rear port. It stands out within its range as the only model to incorporate a dedicated midrange driver, in addition to its dual woofer and tweeter.
The 28 mm Esotar2i tweeter handles the top of the spectrum, with a stated frequency response of 28 Hz to 23 kHz (± 3 dB). The midrange section relies on a 15 cm MSP driver with aluminium voice coil and neodymium magnet system, while the bass is handled by two 23 cm MSP woofers. The crossover topology is 2nd order, with crossover frequencies set at 300 and 4500 Hz.
With a sensitivity of 88 dB (2.83 V / 1 m), an impedance of 4 Ω and an IEC power handling of 390 W, this speaker is designed for amplifiers capable of delivering sufficient current into a low-impedance load.
This type of floorstanding speaker is intended for a high-end hi-fi system, in a listening room large enough to make the most of the soundstage and low-frequency extension afforded by the dual-woofer, separate-midrange configuration.

What to check before buying used
The 15 cm midrange driver deserves particular attention as its suspension can stiffen or crack with age, as can the surrounds of the two 23 cm woofers, which should be checked visually and by ear for sagging or rubbing noises. The more fragile Esotar2i tweeter should be tested across its full bandwidth to rule out any crackling. Also check the cabinetwork (edges, veneer, corners) and the condition of the rear bass-reflex port, as well as the secure fitting of the supplied feet.
