Description
The Emit 20 II is a 2-way bass-reflex bookshelf speaker designed by Dynaudio. It draws on technological elements developed for the brand's higher-end ranges, notably Evoke, and aims for precise listening in rooms of modest to medium dimensions.
The 18 cm woofer/midrange driver uses an MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) cone, a material developed in-house by Dynaudio and used for a long time on its most accomplished models. The cone is made in a single piece, with a dust cap moulded directly into the playing surface, which ensures a rigid connection with the voice coil and promotes control over low and mid frequencies. This voice coil is made from copper-clad aluminium wire, wound on a two-layer fibreglass structure; this choice allows for more turns for a given wire length, hence greater motor force (BL) and dynamics, without adding weight to the moving assembly. Paired with a stacked ferrite magnet system and a new surround, this driver is claimed to deliver bass that remains present even at high volume.
The Cerotar tweeter, a 28 mm soft dome also derived from the Evoke series, incorporates the Hexis device placed inside the dome. This coated fabric dome delivers the high frequencies, while the Hexis smooths the frequency response and dampens unwanted resonances.
The frequency response spans from 42 to 35,000 Hz (+/- 6 dB), for an efficiency of 86 dB and a nominal impedance of 6 Ω. Power handling reaches 160 W, with a crossover frequency between the two ways set at 3800 Hz.
This speaker is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts wishing to equip a modestly sized living room or study, seeking a detailed rendering without requiring excessive amplification power. It will suit stereo listening as well as use in a small home cinema setup.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the 18 cm driver's suspension: hardened, cracked or detached foam or rubber affects bass performance and can indicate damp storage. Also inspect the Cerotar tweeter's dome, which is prone to dents and marks from careless handling. Finally, take a look at the cabinet: chipped veneer, dents or clogged ports directly affect the speaker's sound output.
