Description
The Evoke 20 is a 2-way bookshelf speaker from the Danish brand Dynaudio, designed to suit most listening rooms. It combines an 18 cm midrange/woofer with a 28 mm soft dome tweeter, a configuration intended to cover the entire sound spectrum with coherence between low frequencies and the finest details.
The 28 mm Cerotar soft dome tweeter, with its precision coating, is derived directly from developments made on the Special Forty and Confidence series. Its motor uses strontium ferrite magnets combined with ceramic, a design intended to improve driver sensitivity. The woofer, meanwhile, relies on Esotec+ technology and an MSP cone, a composite material developed in-house by Dynaudio and used in its drivers for several decades.
The speaker adopts a bass-reflex design with a rear-mounted port. The 180 mm woofer is fitted with a 38 mm aluminium voice coil and a Nomex suspension, while the 28 mm Cerotar tweeter incorporates a Hexis system and a Ferrite+ magnet. This combination aims for an extended frequency response, from 40 Hz to 23 kHz (+/-3 dB), with an impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity of 86 dB (2.83 V/1 m). The power handling is 180 watts according to the IEC standard.
With its compact format and 2-way design, the Evoke 20 is aimed at music enthusiasts wanting a desktop or small-to-medium room speaker, on a stand or in a cabinet, for precise stereo listening without excessive bulk.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the woofer's suspension, particularly the Nomex suspension, which can stiffen or crack over time, as well as the integrity of the Cerotar tweeter dome, which is sensitive to impact and deformation. Checking the rear bass-reflex port and the connections is also recommended to ensure there is no play or corrosion on the terminals.
