Description
The Dynaudio S4-C80 is an in-ceiling speaker designed to be installed overhead. It belongs to the Custom S4 range and stands out with a 200 mm midrange/woofer driver, larger than that of the S4-C65, allowing it to cover larger spaces and deliver more prominent bass.
The 28 mm soft dome tweeter handles the high frequencies and can rotate a full 360 degrees, as can the entire driver assembly, in order to direct the sound according to the listening position in the room. A three-position switch (-3 dB, 0 dB, +3 dB) allows the tweeter level to be adjusted according to the room's acoustics or listening preferences. Frequency response extends from 45 Hz to 20 kHz (± 3 dB), with a sensitivity of 89 dB SPL and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms (5 ohms minimum), for a power handling of 100 W.
This speaker is aimed at those wishing to fill large rooms with sound while keeping the installation discreet, with no speakers visible on the floor or on stands. The tool-free mounting system and paintable metal grille, available in round or square versions, allow it to be integrated either by blending into the décor or by embracing it as a visible feature.

What to check before buying used
The 200 mm midrange/woofer driver deserves a close inspection of the suspension: hardened or split foam indicates ageing that affects bass reproduction. Also check that the tweeter and full driver assembly pivot mechanism rotates freely through 360 degrees, without stiff spots or excessive play. The tweeter level switch (-3 dB / 0 dB / +3 dB) should click cleanly between its three positions, without crackling or intermittent contact. Finally, examine the tool-free mounting system and the metal grille, whose original paint finish may have been touched up.
