Description
The SUB 2050 is an active subwoofer from ELAC, designed to complement a pair of bookshelf or floorstanding speakers in a stereo or multichannel setup. Its purpose is to handle the lowest frequencies of the spectrum, relieving the main speakers and adding weight to the bottom end of the sound.
It features a single 300 mm woofer, paired with a class BASH amplifier delivering 500 watts. This architecture allows the subwoofer to reproduce deep bass with control despite its compact footprint, with BASH amplification renowned for combining the energy efficiency of a digital stage with the sound quality of an analogue stage. Control is handled via a dedicated app, allowing the subwoofer's behaviour to be adjusted without multiplying physical controls.

What to check before buying used
The 300 mm woofer must be handled with care: check that the cone and its suspension show no tearing or sagging, which would indicate a subwoofer that has been overdriven in the past. Also check that the BASH amplification and connectivity with the dedicated app function correctly, as well as the condition of the cabinet and ports, which are sensitive to impacts and humidity given the weight and size of the unit.
